Frequently Asked Questions

  • Over the first 4-6 weeks, your physiotherapist will develop a treatment plan according to your individual needs and goals. Treatment sessions then move into co-treatments of 4 people where your physiotherapist will take you through your established program. During these sessions, your physiotherapist will adapt and progress your program as indicated. Important information for New Patients.

  • Anyone with a New Injury/Complaint or current/previous patients with a New Episode require an Assessment Appointment. • Physiotherapy sessions are broken down into manual therapy and exercise therapy. Choose comfortable, loose fitted clothing that does not restrict movement and allows access to your specific injury or pain problem. Most injuries require hands on treatment to the direct area which may require exposure of injury.

  • Pilates is a method of exercise and controlled movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Joseph H. Pilates, a German-born athlete, developed his innovative approach that combines Eastern and Western philosophies of mental and physical harmony.

Clinical Pilates is a patient specific modification of Pilates, adapted for therapeutic use by physiotherapists. The Physio Doctor’s Clinical Pilates is physiotherapy treatment and expands upon Joseph Pilates’ original method into a treatment program that prescribes specific exercises that match an individuals’ preferred directional preference. This has been validated by numerous research papers.

This is not an homogeneous exercise protocol approach, it’s a cutting edge pathology treatment tool.

  • Unlike regular Pilates, Clinical Pilates is physiotherapy treatment and considers the patient’s specific needs for their body, injury, and condition. Each program will be unique to the individual as the exercises will be specifically picked depending on the injury. While regular Pilates is beneficial for improving the overall physical health of someone, it shouldn’t be used for treating specific problems.

  • Clinical Pilates involves specialised Pilates equipment to support and guide movement during exercises. Our physiotherapists will begin with a one-to-one initial assessment to help develop a treatment plan and carefully selected exercises for your injury/condition. The physiotherapist will then teach and guide you through the specific exercises chosen for your custom program, which will be changed and modified as you progress. This can be continued with group sessions of up to 4 people or one-to-one appointments.

  • A referral is not required for standard physiotherapy sessions.
